Meet a few of our Fantastic Team-members !
Hello, My name is Ms. Kimberlee and I am the Play and Learn Leader at A Child’s Space!
I simply love everything early childhood and I believe that the early years are the most meaningful time in a child’s life! I am motivated and driven by opportunities to create spaces where children are loved, nurtured and encouraged to explore and learn in ways that are hands on and highly engaging!
After teaching Kindergarten in Chicago, I discovered my true passion for young children and decided to begin graduate studies in early childhood education. I earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Howard University in Washington D.C. During graduate school I worked at the Howard University Lab School and at the Sidwell Friends Lower School in Bethesda, Maryland.
After graduate school I worked for 7 years with Scholastic New York, the world’s largest publisher of children’s books. Speaking of books… My favorite children’s book is The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss because it’s an amazing children’s story that in a very meaningfully, yet subtle way teaches about faith, perseverance, hard work, family and the importance of confidence!
In 2001, I took a BIG leap of faith and decided to pursue my longtime dream of business ownership. I followed my heart back to the classroom and opened A Child’s Space Early Learning Center in the South Loop! I am actively involved in the daily operations of A Child’s Space and genuinely enjoy greeting parents and children as they arrive and depart each day. I’m careful to set aside time each day to play and learn with the children! I absolutely love re-imagining our environment and finding unique ways to create an amazing learning experience for children.
Our program is eclectic and draws from the theories of Lev Vygotsky, Howard Gardner and Maria Montessori. Our activities are intentional and designed to capture children’s imagination, while also allowing them to explore and develop multiple competencies at their own pace, and most importantly… THROUGH PLAY!
I have high standards for myself and everyone in our school community. Our teachers are well trained and encouraged to continually develop personally and professionally. I treat each child with the same love, care and diligence that I would expect for my very own child. Our school is an intentional model of transparency and attention to the details that will help your child thrive, socially, emotionally and intellectually.
As I tuck 15 years of experience as an owner and director under my belt….or maybe I should say under my scarf.. I never wear belts I’m more committed than ever to focus on my personal mission to provide a fun, nurturing and engaging learning environment for young children. I plan to continue to be creative, innovative and inspired by the best research in early education AND most importantly, the evolving needs of parents and children. The ultimate goal of A Child’s Space is to create lifelong memories and foundational learning experiences that will prepare children to become who they were created to become!
I feel beyond BLESSED to be doing work that does not feel like work and I plan to do it for the rest of my life!
Hello, my name is Ms. Charnique and I am the Blue Room Teacher here at A Child’s Space. I believe children learn through play, experiencing things for themselves, and doing hands on activities are very important. My favorite thing about children is their openness to new things. My favorite children’s book is Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. I like the repetition in the book, which I believe allows children to catch on quickly to the story. I am most proud as a teacher when a child I am working with demonstrates that he/she is able to understand and complete an activity on their own. When they do…. they are so proud of their accomplishments, which is so great to see! I have a Master’s Degree in English Literature. My goal is to get my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and to work with all age groups.
Hi! My name is Ms. Jacqueline and I am an Assistant Teacher in the Yellow Room! I believe children learn through free play, hands on experiences, and interacting with others. My favorite thing about children is their energy and enthusiasm during every activity and their eagerness to learn new things every day. My favorite book to read with the children is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you See?…because I loved it as a child! I currently have my Basic Certificate in Child Development and I am taking classes towards my Associates Degree. My goals are to focus on the education and social development of every child I work with and to help enhance their developmental abilities.
