PLAY IS THE PURPOSE!

When children play, they discover not only themselves but also others! We honor the work of play by presenting an environment with many open-ended opportunities for exploration, communication, collaboration, negotiation, and reflection. Our boutique child learning environment emphasizes small group sizes and quality interactions with a “Heart-Centric” approach to teaching and learning. ACS children discover, grow, and learn while receiving and nurturing support from loving teacher caregivers.

  • Mission

We believe that early childhood is the most important time in a child’s life. We believe that children who are nurtured in joy feel a safe, stimulating learning space. We believe that a happy child is a successful one. As such, we are committed to providing a positive, safe, and stimulating environment for children to learn, where all are valued. We intend that all children should enjoy their learning, achieve their potential, and become independent life-long learners.

Philosophy

We believe that early childhood is the most important season of life.

PLAY is the WORK of the child…and they are amazingly competent!

When children play, they discover not only themselves but also others!

A Child’s Space is not a cookie-cutter approach in any way, and we prefer not to think of ourselves as a daycare!

Our boutique child learning environment emphasizes small group sizes and quality interactions with safe physical distancing and intentional learning through an inquiry-based approach.

Our approach to learning and care is “Heart-Centric", which means not only do we care, but we also teach children to care about others while they build important foundations for life-long learning.

We’re very flexible and accommodating to meet the needs of parents and, importantly, the children we serve!

Our loving, qualified staff is second to none. They are trained to be child-centered and nurture each child’s gifts.

We’re all about creating joy-filled memories for your family. Our small school has a big heart, and we regularly host family-oriented gatherings that allow parents, children, and teachers to connect, share, and celebrate. We also engage in community service projects as a school and sponsor several family outings each year.

We believe that educating young children is a partnership effort between parents and the school community. We love feedback and value involvement.

Come and see for yourself why A Child’s Space is truly the Happiest Place to Grow and Learn!

Heart Smart Giving

At A Child’s Space, we develop children who are not just smart, but also Heart Smart! In addition to our curriculum, which emphasizes the Nine Fruit of the Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control), children also have daily experiences that include, STEAM (Science, Technology, Art, Engineering, and Math), Language, and Literacy.

Three times each year, we partner with a local shelter or organization to share resources, spread love, and support social justice in fun, developmentally appropriate, and Heart-Smart ways!

Our Founder and Owner

Mrs. Kimberlee, our Founder and Owner, is a passionate early childhood educator who began her journey as a kindergarten teacher nearly 27 years ago! After completing her M.A.T. in Early Childhood Curriculum and Instruction at Howard University, she worked for seven years with the world’s largest publisher of children’s books. In 2001, she followed her heart back to the classroom, stepped out on faith, and opened A Child’s Space in Chicago’s South Loop Neighborhood.

She loves everything early childhood and is a huge advocate for play and discovery learning. She believes strongly in the importance of empowering teachers to become leaders and works with many local organizations to mentor and support other Women Business Owners. She’s an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education, Wife, Pet Mommy, Sunday School Teacher, and Cupcake LOVER who plans to NEVER Retire from the work of Early Care and Education!

My favorite children’s book is The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krause.
